the salvia

salvia.jpgPairs of little white butterflies twirled in the purple palace

moths rested on the spikes

a single ladybug sat like a red polka dot on a purple crayon

bees of all sizes, hundreds, thousands pollinated there

the hidden silken threads of a spider’s home, sometimes glistened

this purple home stretched on and on
curving, bending through the grass, this salvia

the first time i read this i thought i read “this saliva,” which makes your poem strange and somewhat disturbing. after reading it again, i realized my mistake. it’s much prettier as salvia.
